Our target is the message

The company, incorporated in 2001, foresees approximately 8 million euros in revenues during the first quarter

The Canadian Marshall McLuhan, one of last century most important names in communication, was able to predict the future, with this simple frase: “The mean is the message”. Forty two years later, SITSMS, a communication company from Catalunya, dared to refrase the concept. “Our target is the message”, say the company directives.

To Sending Intelligent Traffic (SIT), this is the way it should be. The reason of the existance of this company is the short message system (SMS), using cell phones. In 2005, the company sent over 35 million messages.

Founded in Barcelona by two young entrepreneurs, Marc Bonavia and Enric Solé, SIT is now one of the first companies in SMS sending in the country. Their market share is approx. a 10%. The business sector sends a total of 300 and 400 million messages a year.

For company directives, its growth doesn’t erase the first initial years “they were very hard, messages were sent by the internet; but beginning 2003, the market hasn’t stopped growing, and we see the need that companies have for the service”, says Bonavia. SIT clients are sport entities, service companies, healthcare sector and public administrations.

The company charges per message sent and a fixed monthly amount when it involves more management. Profit margins are low, but high message quantities is where the business is. This quarter, SIT is expecting to invoice about 8 million euros and it’s net profits before taxes to be about l million euros.

Complying with their strategic plans has allowed them to expand their international horizon. “Our expansion priorities are Italy, where a company specilized like ours does not exist, and the UK, that constitutes a mature market. If we make it in the UK, it will be easier for us to go to other countries”, states Solé. After that, the company will begin thinking of expanding to the rest of Europe and Latinamerica in a medium to long term.

At the time, SIT directives are not looking for investors. “We have our own funds of approx. 900.000 euros and we can carry out our expansion such as planned”, assures Bonavia. We are thinking on acquiring a company in India, “this will provide us with good technology at lower prices”. Another area for growth is widening our services.
